The 2011 school year was an exciting one at Wellington Elementary. This newly constructed, 76,000 sq ft facility cost $16.5 million to complete. Well worth every penny to design an energy efficient and sustainable school. In itself Wellington Elementary is a teaching tool by allowing student to physically see and experience the sustainable efforts put forth in this project. The school meets Energy Star requirements and includes; energy efficient HVAC, electrical, and plumbing systems. The layout of the school was designed for maximum flexibility. Staff can now explain to students the function of; photovoltaic solar panels, rainwater reuse system, solar hot water system, natural water quality devices and automatic electric lighting control.
